" A beautifully engaging show"
Alice McGuire, Fest Magazine August 2018.
Experience the magic of folklore through a spellbinding storytelling performance inspired by the Brothers Grimm and Terry Pratchett.
In the August of 2018, actress Vickie Holden and myself set off on a challenging yet rewarding journey of bringing ‘The Storyteller’s Apprentice’ to life…
Set in the fantasy world of Edra, ‘The Storyteller’s Apprentice’ explores the feisty dynamic between travelling master storyteller Loquacious MacCarbre and his long-suffering apprentice Stumps. Will she ever get the chance to fulfil her dream to one day become a master storyteller and take the sacred oath?
An enchanting world premiere from The Bottled Imp Theatre Company, supported by Hertford Theatre, ‘The Storyteller’s Apprentice’ is a unique blend of drama, storytelling, verse, and tomfoolery, inspired by the traditional folk and fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm mixed with the subversive humour of Terry Pratchett, suitable for 8 upwards. Expect “wonder, amazement, and more wonder!”
Actors and producers Ken Boyter and Vickie Holden established The Bottled Imp Theatre Company in 2017, specifically to adapt and devise ‘The Storyteller’s Apprentice’ from the illustrated fantasy verse storybook ‘The Legends of Grimous Ironblood’ written by Ken Boyter and illustrated by Rich Nairn. Ken said of the play, “We both love myths and fables, and the tradition of storytelling. We wanted to reflect the wonder and magic of the spoken word through the relationship of a storyteller and his apprentice.”
We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and had fantastic feedback from the audiences. We also had a lovely review from Alice McGuire from Fest Magazine:
Unique, fascinating, poetic, and thoughtful…”
